Reasons to consider sheet vinyl

If you haven't seen vinyl flooring recently, you're in for a pleasant surprise. It has a three-dimensional look with more depth and texture today than ever before. Vinyl is a terrific, affordable alternative to genuine wood, stone, or tile and is one of the most sought-after flooring materials.

Vinyl floors are also waterproof, robust, easy to care for, and uncomplicated to install. The waterproof capabilities and style make them appropriate for any room, from the bath to the living area and bedroom.

What are sheet vinyl floors?

This is made of 100% waterproof materials, and it is made up of several layers, including a clear, strong urethane wear layer at the top that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs.

That's followed by the image layer and backing that can be felt, fiberglass, or vinyl. The format is "sheets" instead of the luxury vinyl version with planks and tile formats.

Other benefits include:

  • Warm, soft, and easy on the joints. Therefore, it's sometimes referred to as "resilient." This is technically a hard surface but with bounce-back qualities that give it some shock absorption. As a result, it can be stood on for long periods without the achy back or knees that we often experience when walking through shopping malls.
  • Stain resistance and durability. The top wear layer is a barrier, shielding the floor from stains and spills; they sit there waiting to be wiped up. The wear layer also protects the floor from scratches and scuffs, so no worries about pets. If taken care of, and installed, properly this material can last up to 20 years.
  • Easy to care for. Sweep daily so dirt doesn't embed and scratch. Deep clean weekly with a damp mop and manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid wax, shine promoting products, as they can dull the surface; if you feel you need more shine, talk to a flooring expert for advice.

Installation can be a loose lay, which means the vinyl sheets hover over an existing subfloor with no nails or glue. Subfloors should be clean, dry and level; if there's debris, subfloor imperfections can telegraph to the surface floor.
